Event Guide
This Weekend in Chicago: A CLR Guide for September 11–13

A curated route through Chicago street festivals, open studios, live music, techno, Afro house, jazz, and soul for September 11–13, 2026.
Chicago gives you several different weekends at once: neighborhood traditions, open studios and independent makers by day, then jazz, soul, Mexican music, techno, and Afro house after dark. These ten picks are not meant to be exhaustive. They are a practical route through the strongest options we could verify for September 11–13.
If you only make one plan, choose the section that matches your energy level and leave room to change course. Several of the daytime events are free, close to transit, and easy to combine.
Friday: Tradition first, techno later
Chicago German-American Oktoberfest
Friday, September 11, 5–10 PM; Saturday–Sunday through 10 PM · Lincoln Square · Free
Start in Lincoln Square with food, beer, German bands, and a neighborhood festival that can work as either a quick stop or the beginning of the night. Saturday adds a 2 PM parade on Lincoln Avenue, while Sunday brings the cultural program. Official festival information
On The Hhunt: Natte Visstick + HHUNTER
Friday, September 11 · 10 PM · Radius Chicago · 18+
For the sharpest late-night turn, Radius moves the weekend into industrial techno on Cermak Road. This is the pick when a casual bar set will not do and you want the scale, sound, and long arc of a full club room. Tickets and details

Saturday daytime: Wander before you commit
Printers Row Lit Fest
Saturday–Sunday, September 12–13 · 10 AM–6 PM · Printers Row · Free
The easiest all-ages daytime anchor is still Printers Row: author talks, booksellers, signings, and enough street activity to reward wandering without a rigid schedule. Program seating is first come, first served. Festival information
Ravenswood ArtWalk
Saturday–Sunday, September 12–13 · 11 AM–6 PM · Ravenswood Industrial Corridor · Free; donation requested
This is the strongest choice for people who want to see how a neighborhood actually makes things. Open studios and galleries stretch along Ravenswood Avenue, with workshops, an outdoor market, food trucks, and two stages of local music connecting the stops. ArtWalk map and program
Renegade Craft Fair Chicago Fall
Saturday–Sunday, September 12–13 · 11 AM–7 PM · Division Street, Wicker Park · Free; $5 contribution suggested
Renegade is the bigger, denser shopping option: more than 400 independent artists and makers on Division Street. Go early if you want to browse carefully; go later if you want the full street-fair crowd and a less methodical afternoon. Fair information and roster
Wicker Park Fine Art Fair
Saturday, September 12 · 10 AM–6 PM · Wicker Park, 1425 N. Damen Ave. · Free
A quieter alternative sits inside the neighborhood’s namesake park. The one-day juried fair focuses on original fine art displayed among the gardens, making it a useful counterpoint—or short detour—to Renegade’s much larger market nearby. Official fair information

Saturday afternoon into night: Go bigger
El Grito Chicago
Saturday–Sunday, September 12–13 · 2–10 PM · Butler Field, Grant Park · $10–$40 listed one-day tiers
El Grito is the weekend’s large outdoor cultural choice, with Mexican music, dance, food, and the scale of Grant Park. General festival admission is paid; the separate civic ceremony on Sunday evening uses free registration. Official information
Madeleine Peyroux
Saturday, September 12 · 8 PM · Old Town School of Folk Music · $90 public / $88 members
Choose this if you want Saturday to end in a seated room rather than another outdoor crowd. Peyroux’s jazz-, blues-, and folk-rooted sound makes this the most intimate and deliberate evening option in the guide. Listed prices include fees. Tickets and details

Sunday: Afro house outside, soul indoors
HUGEL presents Make The Girls Dance
Sunday, September 13 · 5 PM · Navy Pier Open Air, East End Plaza
The late addition that the first version of this guide was missing is also Sunday’s biggest dance option. HUGEL brings an Afro Latin house sound to the lakefront, giving electronic fans an outdoor alternative to Friday’s harder warehouse-scale techno. Venue information · Official tickets
Bettye LaVette
Sunday, September 13 · 7 PM · Old Town School of Folk Music · $59 public / $57 members
For a more focused finale, Bettye LaVette closes the weekend with soul in Maurer Hall. It is the choice for listeners who would rather end with a singular voice and a seated performance than another sprawling festival footprint. Listed prices include fees. Tickets and details

Before you go
Schedules, prices, weather plans, and ticket availability can change. Check the official link before leaving. For the outdoor events, comfortable shoes and a transit plan will do more for the day than trying to fit every stop into one itinerary.
